PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM
Creative Curriculum
for Preschool
was chosen by A Wonder World
as the framework for daily interactions with children in the classroom. The
Creative Curriculum for Preschool is a comprehensive, scientifically-based,
research tested curriculum, which addresses all areas of a child’s development;
physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and language. Using the Creative
Curriculum, teachers can respond to the individual needs and learning styles of
all children – those developing typically, children with disabilities, and
English language learners. The Creative Curriculum specifies the knowledge and
skills children are expected to develop in the areas of literacy, math, science,
social studies, arts and technology, in alignment with the Ohio Early Learning
Content Standards.
The Ohio Early Learning Content Standards
were developed
by the Ohio Department of Education. These standards describe essential concepts
and skills for young children. These Standards are aligned with the K – 12th
Grade Indicators that are currently used throughout Ohio Schools. The Content
Standards include: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, and
Science. The Ohio Early Learning Content Standards and Creative Curriculum link
together to enhance learning experiences for the children in our classrooms. We
provide a foundation of learning by incorporating The Ohio Early Learning
Content Standards to promote a seamless transition into kindergarten and the
primary grades.
INFANT/TODDLER CURRICULUM
Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers
was chosen by A Wonder World as a framework for its infant toddler classroom.
The curriculum outlines what children learn during the first three years, the
experiences through which children achieve these learning goals, what staff do
to help children reach these goals, and the materials needed to support the
infant toddler curriculum.
Ohio’s Infant/Toddler Guidelines
were developed as a guide to support the development and learning of infants and
toddlers. The Creative Curriculum and Infant/Toddler guidelines work together to
provide a learning, caring and responsive environment for A Wonder World Infant
and Toddlers. To promote a consistent foundation, The Ohio Infant/Toddler
guidelines link to The Ohio Early Learning Content Standards.
ASSESSMENT
The Creative Curriculum is linked to an
assessment system, The Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum for Ages 3-5,
which enables the teacher to document each child’s developmental progress and to
individualize planning to address each child’s strengths and needs. Assessment
evidence is based on observation and documentation collected during day to day
classroom activities (examples of children’s artwork, cutting and writing
samples) throughout the year.
ASQ Assessment - Within the first sixty
days of enrollment all parents will be asked to complete an ASQ (Ages and Stages
Questionnaire) for their child. If the child’s assessment score indicates a
developmental concern, a parent-teacher conference will be scheduled.
